For the first half of the school year, every other Friday, Valadez Middle School Academy eighth grade AVID students have been participating in a investing program called, “The Stock Market Game.”

The Stock Market Game is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students grades 4-12 in the world of economics, investing, personal finance, and financially independent futures. The students are given $100,000 virtual dollars, placed in teams of four, and ranked among all the participants in their grade level in the Los Angeles area.

Valadez has a team of four students that placed first in the local area. The team, know as K&N (Kerry Bueno, Noel Galindo, Paulino Salinas, and Leonardo Silva), have shown great skill by integrating investment strategies to place them ahead of the game.

This program was spearheaded for the Valadez Eagles by AVID Tutor, Christian Sanchez, from California State University, Fullerton. One of the students from this team, Noe Galindo, entered an essay competition as a result of his performance in The Stock Market Game, and is a contender for First Place in the Los Angeles area and has a high chance to win.

InvestWrite, an innovative national writing competition, produced by The Stock Market Game program, adds a critical thinking component to help reinforce concepts learned in the classroom. Congratulations Valadez eighth grade AVID students!
