Topaz students receive college themed t-shirts thanks to the help of school partners

Each and every Topaz Elementary School student from preschool to 6th grade recently received a “Topaz Tigers Are College Bound” shirt to help promote “College Shirt Wednesdays” and reinforce a robust college-going culture on campus. The shirts were made possible by OC United, as well as the school’s PTA and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) leadership team.

AVID is a program dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing ALL students for college and other post-secondary opportunities. Teachers trained in AVID’s research-based strategies apply these proven practices to ensure their students are college and career ready.

As an AVID elementary school site, Topaz’s teachers from grades three through six are trained in student success skills, organization skills, and WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading).

“We cannot wait to see all of our Topaz Tigers “ROAR” with pride wearing their new t-shirts!” shared the school’s proud principal, Christa Borgese.
