The week of February 26 – March 2 was “Celebrating Seuss Week” at Van Buren Elementary School. Second grade teacher, Rosemary Pang, and fifth grade teacher, Makiko Shibata-Ellis, planned school-wide activities and created Dr. Seuss-themed morning announcements each day to celebrate the life and creativity of the beloved children’s author.

Students were encouraged to “Make Someone’s Monday” by completing random acts of kindness. Other daily activities included “T-Shirt Tuesday,” “Wacky Wednesday,” “Hats off to Dr. Seuss!,” and “Fox in Socks Friday.”

The highlight of the week for first through sixth graders was Buddy Reading on the field.  Students in grades one through three brought some books to read, while students in grades four through six brought blankets or beach towels. Primary and upper grade students then partnered up to read together on the grass. Students had a wonderful time taking turns reading to each other and learning about the incredible Dr. Seuss!
