Almost 60 Travis Ranch School WE Club members recently counted, sorted, and finished packing donation boxes following their student-organized Thanksgiving food drive. At Travis Ranch, it is the mission of WE Club to help local charities and service organizations in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) community.
In total, the Trailblazers created 32 large boxes containing these items — a $25 gift card, two cans of peas, two cans of fruit, cake mix, cookie mix, rice, two boxes of pasta, pinto beans, mashed potatoes, two cans of corn, fruit juice, stuffing, refried beans, two cans of green beans, pasta sauce, and two cans of mixed vegetables. There food drive also collected over 350 miscellaneous canned food items, as well as five Thanksgiving boxes with complete meal items.
The club’s grand total of donations were 1,118 food items and $800 in gift cards! Everything was donated to the PYLUSD homeless assistance program, McKinney Vento. Under the direction of homeless liason, Jon Matson (pictured left), the boxes were then gifted to some of the District’s neediest families in time for the upcoming holiday.
Matson commented, “Once again, the Travis Ranch WE Club and the entire student body and staff, have come through for our families. I would like to thank all of Travis Ranch School and community for their continued support!”
The club’s teacher adviser, Paola Hellwig, was also thrilled with the results of the drive, and shared that her students really enjoyed the experience.
“I know we are giving several of our very own district McKinney Vento families a much happier Thanksgiving this year,” she shared.
The PYLUSD McKinney Vento program accepts donations from a wide variety of individuals and organizations. If you would like to make a donation or have suggestions for future donations, please consider contacting Matson by phone at 714-986-7280 or by email at email@example.com.
PYL is thankful for you, WE Club!
