Valencia High School (VHS) senior Sophia Oh was sworn in as the new Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Student Representative to the Board of Education on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Her term will last throughout the second semester of the school year.
Sophia first began her educational career in PYLUSD at Golden Elementary School in the fourth grade GATE program before taking her talents to Kraemer Middle School and now, VHS.
Sophia serves the Tigers as ASB president. In this elected role, she has a long list of important responsibilities including planning school-wide events and activities, exemplifying school spirit, overseeing budgets, and much more.
“This is Sophia’s 4th year of representing Valencia’s ASB where she has held the roles of freshman class president, sophomore class president, junior class president, and now, ASB President for her senior year,” shared Jeff Louie, VHS Assistant Principal. “Her dedication and drive to succeed help her to gain the respect of her peers with ease, and her work ethic is crucial to providing the vision for an extensive array of student council projects.”
In addition to ASB, Sophia’s senior year also includes multiple advanced placement (AP) courses and other extra-curricular activities.
Following graduation and beginning in fall 2019, Sophia hopes to attend a University of California school such as San Diego or Los Angeles. She is also open to the idea of venturing out-of-state to New York University or Boston University.
The District is incredibly pleased that Sophia has agreed to serve as the Student Board Representative during her senior year at Valencia.
