Esperanza High School senior, Gabriela Schrader, is a finalist in the 20th Annual Holocaust Art and Writing Contest by Chapman University! After thousands of entries from over 20 countries, Gabriela was one of only 9 artists worldwide selected as a finalist. Her piece is entitled “Love’s Power.”

In Gabriela’s own words: “I depicted Esther Stern’s memory of protecting her two younger sisters from the horrors of the concentration camps. Esther described how all three sisters became ill at the same time. Despite not feeling well, Esther exhausted all her energy nursing her sisters back to health while still performing her work at the camp. She drove herself to tend to them until she physically passed out. I felt connected to Esther’s story since I too am an older sister and I too will always protect my siblings. We should do everything in our power to ensure our loved ones’ health, happiness, and safety.”

The 20th Annual Holocaust Art & Writing Contest awards ceremony will take place on Friday, March 8, 2019.
