Ice hockey team at Melrose Elementary School crowned champions

For the first time in the school’s history, the Melrose Elementary ice hockey team won the GOALS Tournament Championship! The game took place on Tuesday, April 24 at Anaheim Ice. That day, Melrose teachers and parents filled the stands to cheer on the students during their game and after as they accepted the “Golden Duck” Trophy.

Leading up to the championship game, twelve Melrose students ranging from 3rd to 5th grade spent the school year learning how to ice skate, play hockey, and most importantly, work as a team.

“Our students worked hard and tirelessly to bring home the trophy,” shared Principal Cynthia Alvarez. “We are so very proud of them.”

GOALS, which stands for Growth Opportunities through Athletics Learning and Service, strives to provide local students with opportunities to engage in athletics, after-school educational enrichment, and community service experience.
