Travis Ranch AVID fosters a college-going mindset for all students

Travis Ranch college displays.

Over the past several months, Travis Ranch School’s AVID team has been putting together an elaborate school display of college-going materials. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a nationwide non-profit organization devoted to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

AVID Teacher, Kimmi Carlos, reached out to colleges nationwide and was met by intense support from many universities. The display in the school’s library, curated by librarian, Stephanie Yamashita, includes admissions materials, university swag, and financial information, organized by college, for students to browse.

The library is also festively decorated with college pennants, patches, and posters to help inspire students to go to college and pursue their academic goals. Due to the overwhelming donations and support, from both college and Trailblazer parents, AVID was also able to create a permanent bulletin board display in the middle school hallway, along with hanging pennant flags from the ceiling beams. Students have greeted the displays with excitement and interest.
