Running Club at Brookhaven Elementary promotes a healthy lifestyle and creates a belonging space for students

This past week, first through sixth grade students began participating in Brookhaven Elementary School’s morning recess 50 Mile Running Club.

The program began last school year under the coordination and guidance of parent, Mrs. Christine Locht. She facilitates parent helpers, tracks laps, and continues to bring great enthusiasm and encouragement to the Bears during morning recess running days!

Laps are being tallied and translated into miles. Students efforts and milestones will be recognized each trimester and students reaching the goal of 50 miles will have their name added to the school’s 50 Mile Running Club plaque in the front office.

“Our 50 Mile Running Club is just one more way students have an opportunity to make healthy choices, build friendships, and belong at Brookhaven!” Principal Julie Lucas shared. “Way to go, Bears!”
