Esperanza Aztecs experiment with acrylic paint during art and science collaboration on campus

EHS.

Esperanza High School art teacher, Lynn Magnin, and student teacher, Mr. Fleury, as well as science teacher, Matthew Emrick, recently collaborated together during the art department’s weekly Open Studio Wednesday. The goal was to bring both science and art together in the making of beautiful whimsical acrylic pour designs.

Mr. Emrick instructed over 20 students about how latex based additives enable acrylic paint to “stretch” into beautiful designs without having a preconceived plan. As a result, Mrs. Magnin will have all of her art students design book covers using the acrylic pour technique for their hand-made Elements and Principles of Design book project.

Acrylic pours offer students the opportunity to experience trial and error, discover a new and innovative technique, experiment and succeed in a breakthrough…the goal of both science and art students alike!
