McKinney Vento Program helps young student receive new shoes

Luis Salgado, a student in Kelly Rucker’s preschool class at Tynes Elementary School, recently received two new pairs of shoes compliments of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District McKinney Vento Program.

Mrs. Rucker contacted District Liaison, Jon Matson, and explained how Luis had worn out his shoes during recess while riding a scooter on the playground. His parents were having a hard time replacing them.  She asked if McKinney Vento could assist the young student.

“This is exactly the help that the PYLUSD McKinney Vento Program provides to our most needy students,” Matson shared. “Since we received a federal grant to alleviate poverty for homeless and students living in transitional housing, we are able to help with many students’ basic needs.”
