Tuffree Middle School offers presentations on individuals with hearing loss

On Wednesday, September 26, all 8th grade students listened to a presentation about what it’s like to be deaf or hard of hearing. The presenter, Erika Thompson, visited from the California School for the Deaf in Riverside.

Erika is the Community Resource Specialist for CSDR and often goes out to provide workshops for local school districts. According to Principal Cindy Freeman, Erika was very excited to come out to Tuffree Middle School and work with Tuffree’s 8th grade students and staff on how to best to instruct students with varying degrees of hearing loss. She is deaf herself and brought sign language interpreters to assist.

“Tuffree students and staff were attentive and interested in this relevant topic, especially since we have students on campus currently who have severe hearing loss,” Principal Freeman shared.
