El Dorado High School celebrated its annual AVID Family night recently. Over 200 students and their families attended the event on campus. After eating dinner together, the group moved into the theater. There, each grade had a student representative talk about what AVID meant to them. Some focused on the skills they have learned, but one thing all of the Golden Hawks mentioned was that AVID serves as a second family to them. The night ended with a fun game that was won by the freshmen.
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system that supports students in their quest to break educational barriers by enrolling in rigorous courses and experiences that will prepare them to be college and career ready.
