Valencia football coach Mike Marrujo honored by Board of Education

On Tuesday, Dec. 15, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Board of Education recognized Valencia High School teacher and football coach Mike Marrujo with a “You Are The Advantage” award.

The “You Are The Advantage” is one of the district’s most prestigious commendations.

This past season, Coach Marrujo achieved over 300 career victories, making him one of only three coaches in Orange County to reach that goal. Mike has been the Valencia head football coach for 35 years. During his tenure, he earned 15 league championships (the fourth most in Orange County history), three CIF championships and three CIF championship runners-up. With an overall record of 306-151-1, he has the third most wins in Orange County history. In his final season, his team went undefeated, becoming the 2015 Empire League champions.

More than anything, Coach Marrujo is a man of integrity and commitment who understands the important life-changing mission the coaching profession provides. The Board also thanked Mike’s wife Lucy for her sacrifice over the last 35 years.

Mike exemplifies our district’s core values, and the recognition of the a “You Are The Advantage” award is well-deserved.
