Lakeview’s student leaders begin outreach for their annual charity fundraiser

On December 2, Lakeview Elementary School’s Peer Mentor leadership group, led by teachers Bonnie Thompson, Emily Liu, and Natali Riggio, kicked off their annual charity outreach with the theme “Be the Change You Wish to See in the World” this holiday season! Students encouraged families in the car line and passed out candy canes with world erasers sharing the phrases, “Thank you for your involve’mint’!” and “Be a world changer…support Hopeful Hearts!” Holiday music was played on campus to create a festive environment.

The charity chosen to support is The Hopeful Hearts Foundation which helps families with children suffering from CHD (Congenital Heart Disease). Lakeview Mentors worked incredibly hard creating hearts that decorated the school campus, passing out encouraging notes to staff members, and putting together the classroom heart containers for each teacher.

The Lakeview leaders are currently encouraging students and families to bring in as much “change” as they can to fill their classroom heart container which has a heartbeat goal line. If classes reach their goal line, they will be blasted with a special surprise the week before winter break. The outreach lasts until Thursday, December 12.

“Let’s GO, Lions!!! Your love and compassion WILL change the world!” teacher Natali Riggio shared.
