Shaylee Matthews sworn in as new Student Member on the PYLUSD Board of Education

New student board member Shaylee Matthews.

Esperanza High School (EHS) senior Shaylee Matthews was sworn in as the new Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Student Board Member on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Her term will last throughout the second semester of the school year.

As the Student Board Member, Shaylee will prepare a monthly report to present at each Board Meeting. Her reports will highlight recent activities and events occurring on the District’s high school campuses. She will also cast preferential votes on important matters related to PYLUSD.

Shaylee grew up in the District, having attending Glenknoll Elementary School before transitioning to Bernardo Yorba Middle School and now, EHS.

This school year, Shaylee serves the Aztecs as ASB President, an elected role with many responsibilities on behalf of her school. In addition to ASB, Shaylee’s senior year also includes many Advanced Placement (AP) courses, soccer, newspaper, orchestra, and more.

Following graduation and beginning in Fall 2020, Shaylee will attend Chapman University in Orange on a full tuition scholarship.

The District is incredibly pleased that Shaylee has agreed to serve as the Student Board Member during her final semester at Esperanza and in PYLUSD. Congratulations, Aztec!
