Esperanza High student earns 1st Place Award of Excellence for original painting in Reflections Program

EHS student Reflections winner.

Congratulations are in order for Esperanza High School student Alvaro Solis who has won the 1st Place Award of Excellence in the Reflections Program Special Artist Category for the Fourth District PTA. The Fourth District PTA is an organization of the twenty councils which represent all Orange County PTA members, as well as members in a small portion of Los Angeles County.

Since 1969, the Reflections Program has encouraged more than 10 million students from throughout California and across the nation to create works of art. At PTA schools in California, more than 30,000 students participated in this year’s program. It provides a venue for students to create and be recognized for original works of art based on a student inspired pre-selected theme. It also serves to increase community awareness of the importance of arts in education. This year’s theme was, “Look Within.”

Artworks are submitted first to school-level PTAs, where they are first recognized, celebrated, and judged by five grade-level divisions, while a non-judged Special Artists division celebrates student artists with special needs. School PTAs then choose a selection of entries to be judged by local PTA units, which are then sent on to councils and then districts for consideration.

The final artworks submitted to California State PTA by districts are then considered for Outstanding Interpretation, Awards of Excellence, or Awards of Merit. Outstanding Interpretation and Award of Excellence entries then go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round.

Best of luck, Alvaro!
