Annual PYLUC Reflections showcase featuring student artwork from across the district moves to virtual format

I Matter Because...

The Placentia Yorba Linda Unified Council of PTAs/PTSAs is proud to present their 2021 PTA Reflections Showcase online for viewing at https://pylucpta.org/reflections-showcase. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the website to enjoy the amazing and inspiring works of art that have been created by Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) students. The Council created a virtual showcase this year to honor the student artwork that would normally have been publicly displayed. The virtual showcase has been made possible by PYLUC president, Stacey Wong, reflections co-chair, Debi Grant, PYLUC webmaster, Coree Del Giorgio, and all of PYLUC!

Reflections is a PTA/PTSA sponsored national art competition program that seeks to encourage students to express themselves imaginatively through art, inspire creativity, and allow positive recognition for students’ original artworks. The 2020-2021 artistic theme is “I Matter Because…” In PYLUSD, 305 original artistic entries were created to exemplify the 2020-2021 theme and 25 schools sponsored the program with student participants from Preppy K through 12th grade. Notably, over 190 entries were moved up from the preliminary round to the PYLUC Council level of competition where 25 entries representing PYLUC were forwarded to the Fourth District PTA level of competition. Two student entries have advanced to the CA State PTA level of competition and are currently being evaluated. This includes Noah Hawkins for High School Dance Choreography from Yorba Linda High School and Trevor Foust for Intermediate Photography from Bryant Ranch School.

Student artists could submit entries in any of the 6 artistic categories—Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.

There are 5 Age Divisions per Art Category including Primary – Pre-K – 2nd grade; Intermediate – 3 – 5 grade; Middle School – 6 – 8 grade; High School – 9-12 grade; Special Artists – all grades.

The Placentia Yorba Linda Unified Council (PYLUC) of PTAs/PTSAs congratulates all student artists this year. The Reflections program would not have been possible without the support of students’ families and school-site Reflections chairs, and the tremendous effort by PYLUC Reflections co-chairs, who made this program possible in a pandemic.
