Tuffree students win second place in OC Moot Court Competition

Tuffree students.

Last week, Tuffree Middle School eighth graders Nicole Leon, Sofia Gozar, JD Cavalluzzi, and Mia Demonte represented Tuffree Middle School and the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District in the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County’s Moot Court County Championships. Working in teams of two, they presented appellate arguments before sitting federal magistrate judges in competition with other county middle schools, arguing a fictitious trademark infringement case based on real appellate court precedent cases and answering questions from the judges about their arguments.

JD and Mia finished as the top appellant team in the county and as the second-place overall team. Nicole, Sofia, JD, and Mia are all inaugural members of the Tuffree Law Club and have been working on their arguments since last year. Congratulations to all four of these Falcons and to their dedicated coaches, Tuffree teachers Kim Schultz and Darshelle Lapworth.
