Over summer, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District’s (PYLUSD) very own School Resource Officer from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD), Deputy Nick Doty, was honored with the Distinguished Safe Schools Award at the 12th annual Safe Schools Conference in Garden Grove.

When asked about the award, Superintendent Dr. Jim Elsasser shared: “Deputy Doty has diligently served our Yorba Linda school campuses for four years now and we have witnessed firsthand the positive impact he has had on students, staff, and most importantly, school safety. We echo the conference’s sentiments in taking a moment to appreciate Deputy Doty’s efforts to amplify best practices and increase collaboration between the education and law enforcement communities.”

Annually, the Safe Schools Conference brings together hundreds of educators and law enforcement partners to discuss and learn about a wide range of topics including bullying, the impacts of popular culture, inclusive school environments, emergency drills, gang interventions, crisis response, mental health, behavioral threat assessment, drug abuse prevention, and comprehensive school safety plans.

In a Facebook post, OCSD Sheriff Don Barnes shared the following about the award: “Deputy Doty is representative of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department School Resource Officers who are so dedicated to the well being of Orange County’s students. When school begins this fall, our SROs will be there to keep your kids safe.”
