The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) has expanded its intramural sports offerings for students in middle school.

On Friday, October 15, the district hosted its inaugural Middle School Sports Volleyball Tournament at Esperanza High School in Anaheim. All six comprehensive middle schools participated in the fun including Bernardo Yorba, Kraemer, Travis Ranch, Tuffree, Valadez, and Yorba Linda.

Leading up to the tournament, over 300 students had the opportunity to participate in after-school intramural volleyball to learn basic skills, practice, and form teams.

The tournament featured a round-robin style format with dozens of matches happening throughout the course of the afternoon. The final matches were played in front of a large group of students and families.

In the end, Kraemer and Tuffree middle schools competed in the boys’ finals with Kraemer prevailing as the champions. Bernardo and Yorba Linda middle schools also took the court for the girls’ championship match, with Yorba Linda emerging as victorious.

Director of Middle Schools, Keith Carmona, and his team were instrumental in organizing this effort. Esperanza High School’s administration and girls varsity/junior varsity volleyball teams also played a huge role in making the event a great success.

The district’s next middle school sports event will be a cross country meet hosted by Valencia High School at Veteran’s Park on Friday, November 5, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
