First graders at Rose Drive conduct hair-raising science experiment

First grade faces lit up at Rose Drive Elementary School as Mr. Woodward, a chemistry teacher at Esperanza High School, created a field of electricity, creating sparks of interest in science. Two students participated in a hair-raising experiment to the delight of their peers. This presentation was part of Rose Drive’s first grade science unit on weather. Students are learning about what causes weather, as well as how it affects our lives. This is also a great time to understand what causes thunder and lightning, as all of Southern California prepares to greet El Niño!
