On May 12, eighth-grade AVID Standout Students from all six Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) middle schools were recognized by the Orange County Department of Education at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Valadez Middle School Academy student, Anadelia Ureiro, was one of just six students selected by the Angels Foundation as an Angels Scholar. Anadelia will receive a $10,000 renewable scholarship for college in addition to the Angels tickets, Angels gear, and a brand new laptop that all standouts received.

Then, on May 17, the PYLUSD Board of Education set aside time to recognize all six students during their meeting. The students’ teachers, counselors, principals, and loved ones were also in attendance to support the standouts.

“Each year, the AVID Standout Award is given to students who demonstrate excellence, collaboration, integrity, and service in their academic achievements and individual determination,” Director of Middle Schools, Keith Carmona, shared. “These six students before you this evening are being recognized for their high GPA, community service, and involvement in leadership and extracurricular activities. Many hours of dedication and hard work are behind these students’ accomplishments. This recognition represents the determination, perseverance, and commitment each student has demonstrated toward their education.”
