Another successful market day in the books at Glenknoll Elementary School

Glenknoll ES

The third-grade students at Glenknoll Elementary School became producers, consumers, entrepreneurs, and advertising experts for a school-wide market day! After a hiatus, it was wonderful to resume the annual event.

Aligning with the social studies and ELA standards, students created products using California’s natural resources, decided on selling prices and developed advertising posters. Additionally, they were responsible for running their own market stand, making changes, restocking their supplies, and repaying their $5 “cougar cash” business loan. The entire Glenknoll community, which included families, students, and staff, was given “cougar cash” to spend at the student market. Especially endearing was when the 6th graders took their kindergarten little buddies around to help them shop.

Through this collaborative community effort, students even sold out of their products, which was the goal! There was so much positive energy, great feedback, and it was heartwarming to see our community come together. We look forward to this annual tradition again next year with a new set of third-grade producers!
