Venture Academy celebrates its Class of 2022

Venture Academy graduation ceremony

On June 9, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District’s (PYLUSD) Adult Transition Program, known as Venture Academy, held its annual graduation ceremony in honor of the Class of 2022. The event took place at the PYLUSD Performing Arts Center in Placentia.

Following the graduates’ procession, Principal Rebecca Allan welcomed the dignitaries in attendance and also acknowledged the families, staff members, and most importantly, the school’s graduates attending the ceremony.

Renee Gray, the district’s Executive Director of Special Education/SELPA, served as the ceremony’s keynote speaker and shared how proud she was of the graduates’ accomplishments working at local businesses. She noted how many students also had the opportunity to create personal portfolios, participate in mock job interviews, and complete job applications during their time in the Academy. In addition to work skills, the students were also taught valuable life skills such as using public transportation, making simple purchases, and enjoying activities in the community.

The audience was then treated to the first-ever performance by Venture Academy’s new choir under the direction of staff member Carmen Coindreau Gonzalez. In preparation, the students spent every Wednesday afternoon with Ms. Gonzalez practicing their songs and building self-esteem.

Board of Education Trustee Karin Freeman then accepted Venture Academy’s Class of 2022 as having completed all mandatory program requirements. She also offered sincere words of encouragement and praise to the young adults.

To conclude the ceremony, Venture Academy teachers presented each graduate with their certificate of completion. Congratulations, Venture graduates!
