New PYLUSD teachers and mentors gather for first induction event of the school year

Induction event

On October 4, 140 Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District educators gathered for their first induction collaboration event of the year at Morse Elementary School. The group included year one and year two teachers accompanied by their mentors alongside a handful of the district’s teachers on special assignment, known as TOSAs.

In California, new teachers are required to go through a two-tiered credentialing system which includes coursework and fieldwork, in addition to participating in a two-year induction program focused on extensive support and mentoring. School districts are responsible for providing induction programs to progress teachers toward a full understanding of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. At the end of this process, teachers earn a California Clear Credential. Induction Coordinator Cameron Castenada oversees the district’s program.
