El Dorado’s international students partake in Oktoberfest at Phoenix Club

Nine of El Dorado High School’s international students attended Oktoberfest at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim on Sunday, October 23. The Phoenix Club is the German Association of Orange County, which promotes German culture. The Golden Hawks had a tremendous time! They ate bratwurst, sauerkraut, German (Kartoffelsalat) potato salad, and German (Kartoffelpfannkuchen) potato pancakes. The students also listened to the German band playing, sang along with the songs, and even danced to the Fliegerlied, bobsled, and chicken dance.

Pictured above is the entrance of the Phoenix Club. In German, it states “Tritt ein, Hier bist Du unter Freunden, which translates to “Enter, Here you are among friends.”

During the visit, club advisor Dr. Gregory Beckmann had a chance to speak with the leader of the Phoenix Club’s Schuhplattler (Bavarian folk dancers) group and asked if they would be willing to perform for the El Dorado student body in the foreseeable future.
