Young students at Van Buren learn about voting

Van Buren students learning about voting.

Van Buren Elementary School transitional kindergarten students had the opportunity to vote on Election Day 2022! Students in Jessica Zunigabravo’s class voted on which cookie they like more: Oreos or Chocolate Chip.

Together with their teacher, the students discussed the process of voting and how everyone only gets one vote. They also learned about the importance of voting so their choice gets counted. Some social-emotional learning strategies were incorporated as Mrs. Zunigabravo shared about how winners are determined by which choice has the most votes. The class then brainstormed ideas on appropriate ways to react if their individual choice was not the winner.

Way to go, Roadrunners!
