Kraemer Science Olympiad team wins first place, again!

Congratulations to the Kraemer Middle School Science Olympiad team for repeating its success by winning first place at the Muscatel Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 16!

This invitational was probably the toughest competition prior to the state tournament. A total of 32 teams from around the western United States participated, including two teams from Hawaii. Kraemer brought two teams (junior varsity and varsity) to compete.

Everyone arrived at Muscatel Middle School in Rosemead at 7:15 a.m. for registration and preparation. It was a cold, cloudy morning, but Kraemer students were in high spirits and ready for the challenge. While waiting for the first events to begin, some team members caught up with last-minute reviews. To lessen the stress, our students also started playing basketball and badminton with other school students.

After the events were completed, everyone traveled to the nearby Rosemead High School auditorium for the awards ceremony. There wasn’t an empty seat available as students, parents and guests anxiously await the results. Muscatel organizers began by welcoming all the teams, and gave out a spirit award in memory of a past team captain. Before the individual awards were given out, every student received a medal for participating. Then, as the top finishers received their awards, the anticipation began building as everyone was curious to find out which team captured first place. Finally, when Kraemer was announced as the top team winner, the school erupted in joy and celebration! The winning team was paraded onstage, and Mr. Shaun Evola graciously accepted the trophy.

With this important win, the Kraemer teams are able to continue to fine tune their skills and techniques, while receiving additional experience in competing with other seasoned opponents. The KMS SciOly teams will have a week off before their final invitational at Mesa Robles School in Hacienda Heights on Saturday, Jan. 30. Please come out to cheer them on!
