PTA at Rio Vista Elementary supports several exciting events for students on campus

Rio Vista PTA events.

December 2022 was a month of many “firsts” for Rio Vista Elementary School in Anaheim.

Rio Vista’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has been awarded its first-ever competitive National PTA grant to implement a “STEM + Families Propelling our World Night” in Spring 2023. The event is designed to inspire STEM learning education and to increase awareness of STEM careers by families participating in fun, STEM-related, hands-on games, activities, and competitions led by facilitators with assistance from neighboring STEM-focused high school and middle school students. The goal is to help create a new generation of critical thinkers and innovators regardless of race, gender, or zip code.

For the first time in 10 years, the Rio Vista PTA implemented the Reflections Art Program at school. Twenty-two entries were submitted from K-5th grades. The Leopards are excited to announce that one fourth-grader received First Place at the PYLUC PTA Council level for his film production, “How to Save our Planet,” and it has been moved up to the PTA 4th District for the next level of judging!

The Rio Vista PTA also hosted its first-ever AVID Movie Night on December 13, 2022. More than 300 people attended the standing-room-only event, which provided amazing photo opportunities, Mexican food, champurrado, popcorn, and Disney giveaways! AVID strategies were introduced to families that connected the characters and creative work in the Disney movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, helping to increase comprehension and to make learning more engaging for participating students.

Additionally, Rio Vista’s special education team organized a toy distribution for all preschoolers, transitional kindergarteners, kindergarteners, and first and second graders in late December. Students also participated in Rio Vista’s first-ever “Reindeer Games,” activities which not only fostered team spirit and camaraderie, but also tapped into the student’s sensorimotor, attention, short-term memory, and auditory processing skills. At the same time, the Rio Vista PTA provided Disney novelty gifts for all 3rd-5th graders at the school, making it the first time ever that Rio Vista provided a holiday present to every single student on campus, which totals nearly 700.

Way to go, Rio Vista!
