Bernardo Yorba and Glenview offer preview of middle school Dual Language Academy set to open next school year

Bernardo Yorba Middle DLA Preview Night.

On Wednesday, January 18, Bernardo Yorba Middle School hosted a Dual Language Academy preview event.

Since opening its doors in 2016, the Spanish Dual Language Academy at Glenview Elementary School in Anaheim has served as a great source of pride in PYLUSD. Now in its seventh year, students in the program participate in a 50% English and 50% Spanish model of instruction every day by learning to read, write, and communicate effectively in both languages. Next school year, the first Dual Language Academy kindergarten class will enter seventh grade, continuing the program at Bernardo Yorba.

With around 150 people in attendance, current students and families from Glenview had the opportunity to understand the program model and make-up, meet the Academy teachers, and experience snippets of various after-school Latin cultural clinics that will be offered in the spring.

BYMS teachers and local community partners proudly hosted interactive experiences to showcase upcoming after-school clinics. Some of the community partners include local artist Pablo Damas and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Chef Orlando Luevano.

“Our students enjoyed a performance and their own practice of Baile Folklórico,” Principal Beth Fisher shared. “We are proud of the program and partnership that BYMS is making with students, parents, and community!”
