Kraemer Middle School’s CyberPatriot teams rank among top in the nation

Kraemer CyberPatriots!

You may ask, “What is CyberPatriots?” It’s a National Youth Cyber Defense competition that puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company.

Through a series of online 6-hour competition rounds once a month, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services. This competition started in September with over 3,600 teams nationwide.

Only 300 teams made it to the semifinals, including multiple teams from Kraemer Middle School. Three of Kraemer’s five teams, which include four to six students a team, made it to the semifinals! The competition was held on January 20.

The teams were made up of the following students:
Team 15-1564
– Dahee Lee
– Ragini Bhambani
– Zavira Cain
– Livia Yu
– Ruthvika Rajesh

Team 15-1566
– Gavin Du
– Harold Zhang
– Jameson Xu
– Nathan Huynh
– Ryan Chen
– Eva Yoon

Team 15-1567
– Shrihun Andhe
– Josiah Yoon
– Joshua Wang
– Aiden Kim

Remarkably, two of Kraemer’s three teams placed in the top 25 nationwide.

“Please congratulate the Cyber Patriots teams on a job well done,” Kraemer Principal Michael Young shared. “Team 15-1566 placed 11th, which is 8th in the State of California, and Team 15-1567 placed 20th, which is 11th in the State of California.”

Way to go, Cubs!
