Kraemer Middle School student earns first place at Orange County Science and Engineering Fair

Kraemer Middle School GATE student Sarina Haque received the First Place award for her project “Not So Fresh Water” in the 68th Annual Orange County Science and Engineering Fair (OCSEF), held on March 19 at Chapman University.

Sarina also won the prestigious Beckman-Chapman Young Scientist Award. This award is only granted to the top five science fair projects! A poster of her project will be created and displayed at Chapman University for the 2023-2024 school year.

Sarina placed in the top 10% of middle school science fair participants and was chosen to receive the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Award. The Thermo Fisher Award (previously the Broadcom MASTERS from 2010-2022, the Society’s Middle School Program (2008), and the Discovery Channel Young Scientists Challenge (1999-2007)), is the nation’s premier STEM research competition for middle school students. She will be entering to qualify for the Thermo Fisher Science and Engineering Project Showcase, which will be held in October in Washington, DC.

Sarina was also chosen to participate in the California State Science and Engineering Fair, which will take place on April 11, 2023, at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
