Sixth graders demonstrate their knowledge as a part of Glenview Elementary’s first-ever Dual Language Academy Showcase

California’s Biliteracy Pathway Recognitions are awarded to students who have demonstrated progress toward proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one more language in addition to English.

Glenview Elementary School’s Dual Language Academy (DLA) gives two awards. The Biliteracy Program Participation Recognition is awarded to students in Kindergarten and 3rd grade who are participating in the Dual Language Academy.

The Elementary Biliteracy Attainment Recognition is awarded to 6th-grade DLA students who demonstrate growth in English and Spanish proficiency. To earn this recognition, each student submitted a portfolio that includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English and Spanish.

The process began in November when students were introduced to the rubric that would be used to determine proficiency. They then submitted a project topic idea, which was approved by the teachers and their parents. Students worked on their projects throughout the year and each created a presentation to present to their peers and classmates.

On May 24, 2023, Glenview hosted its first annual 6th Grade DLA Showcase, where students had an opportunity to present their projects to their families, friends, and community members. Visitors had a chance to ask the students questions in either English or Spanish and see their culminating biliteracy project.

“Many thanks to our Glenview students, families, staff, and other community members for joining us for this special event,” Assistant Principal Julie Pak shared. “We are so proud of our students and congratulate them on earning the state’s Elementary Biliteracy Attainment Recognition. They are on the path to becoming bilingual and biliterate and earning the California State Seal of Biliteracy upon high school graduation.”

Well done, Bulldogs!
