Abraham Lincoln visits Sierra Vista, school celebrates Founders’ Day

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, retired teacher Mr. Marestaing came to Sierra Vista Elementary School dressed as Abraham Lincoln. Along with his black suit and top hat, “Mr. Lincoln” brought many artifacts from his life to share with the children. The students in first, fourth and fifth grade were able to enjoy this assembly in honor of President Lincoln’s birthday. The children enjoyed the presentation, and loved learning so much about our 16th president in this hands-on assembly.

Sierra Vista celebrates PTA Founders’ Day
On Thursday, Feb. 11, the Sierra Vista PTA held a celebration for Founders’ Day. Parents, teachers and students were invited to celebrate the founding of the PTA, the oldest and largest volunteer organization to advocate for the education, health and safety of children.

Second graders performed songs throughout the celebration for the audience to enjoy. There were also honorary service awards presented to exceptional individuals who exhibit outstanding community service to the children at Sierra Vista.

The recipients of the awards this year were:

  • Jen Banuelos — For her devotion to our children, and all of the programs she generously donates her time to
  • Kim Griffin — For her time above-and-beyond the classroom that benefits all students at Sierra Vista, and her enthusiasm towards school programs and committees
  • Sigma Nu Fraternity: Lambda Upsilon Chapter from Cal State Fullerton — For their love and passion shown towards the children during Fun Fitness Fridays
  • Mimi Schall — For going above and beyond as Sierra Vista’s librarian for the last 16 years

Overall, it was a spectacular night to celebrate Sierra Vista’s wonderful PTA, and all the admirable individuals who dedicate so much time to our children.
