On Saturday, April 30, 17 school sites located in Placentia were part of the “Love Placentia” city-wide serve day event. Love Placentia is a partnership of 15+ local religious groups, city government, law enforcement, local businesses, service organizations, public and private education, and local residents. Their mission is to “demonstrate kindness, meet community needs and impact lives together.”
The event began with a “kick off” at El Dorado High School at 8 a.m., and approximately 1,000 volunteers worked on projects throughout the morning at each Placentia school, as well as various local city locations. Projects primarily included site beautification, and each principal had the chance to provide input and walk the site with the cleanup volunteers.
PYLUSD values our continued and growing partnership with the local community, and is thankful to all the hard-working volunteers and generous organizations who worked to help beautify our schools. Special thanks to organizer Mandi Pettikas from Rose Drive Friends Church for organizing this wonderful event.

Brookhaven Elementary School
Brookhaven received some tender loving care on Saturday. Volunteers cleaned up the front of the school by pulling weeds, planting a garden box and adding mulch to the landscaping. This was a wonderful act of kindness, and greatly appreciated! Thank you Love Placentia!
Melrose Elementary School
Volunteers arrived at Melrose on Saturday morning to work on various projects, including pulling out bushes from the kindergarten play area, painting the center railings along the stairwell and planting new flowers in the front planter. Melrose families worked alongside volunteers from throughout the city, including Rose Drive Friends Church and California State University, Fullerton, students. Melrose is grateful to all the volunteers, and are enjoying the improvements!
