Math competition adds up to big victory for Woodsboro students

Congratulations to the Woodsboro Elementary School math teams that competed in the Orange County Math Field Day competition held at Capistrano Valley High School this past Saturday, May 14. There were 356 students in 89 teams representing 36 schools. The following students represented Woodsboro’s three math teams:

Fourth grade:

  • Jonathan Chien
  • Hosanna Chung
  • Joseph Lee
  • Ray Tan

This fourth grade team placed in the following categories: first place “Data Analysis,” first place “Algebraic Thinking,” first place “Measurement,” second place “Geometry,” second place “Numbers” and second place “Operations.”

Fifth grade:

  • Rohan Bhalodia
  • Camille Ives
  • Preston Sasaki
  • Robert Sutedjo

This fifth grade team placed in the following categories: third place “Geometry,” fourth place “Data Analysis” and fifth place “Measurement.”

Sixth grade:

  • Josiah Chung
  • Arjun Patel
  • John Risner
  • David Van Dyke

This sixth grade team placed in the following categories: second place “Algebraic Thinking,” second place “Data Analysis” and fourth place “Geometry.”

The success of these students would not be possible without the dedication of their coaches, Philip Chien, Tracy Chung, Chuck Ives and Minesh Patel.
