Board of Education names Dr. Gregory S. Plutko as next Superintendent

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Board of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Gregory S. Plutko, Ed.D., has been selected as the next Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Plutko’s appointment was made at a Board meeting on Tuesday, May 24, and his starting date will be July 1.

After an extensive three-month search, which included input sessions with administrators and staff, a community Open Forum for parents and district stakeholders, and an online survey, Dr. Plutko was chosen out of an incredibly qualified and impressive list of candidates.

The Board was very pleased with Dr. Plutko’s education, academic preparation and professional background.

“We couldn’t be more excited about working with Dr. Plutko,” said PYLUSD Board of Education President Judi Carmona. “Greg is a respected education leader with a strong work ethic and impressive credentials. More importantly, he is highly dedicated to the success of his students.”

“I am honored to accept this position,” added Dr. Plutko. “PYLUSD is a remarkable school district with a long tradition of excellence.”

Dr. Plutko was most recently the Superintendent of the Huntington Beach Union High School District, and comes to PYLUSD after serving in executive educational positions with the Corona-Norco Unified School District, Walnut Valley Unified School District and Glendora Unified School District.

At Corona-Norco, Dr. Plutko severed as both Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services and Assistant Superintendent of Executive Services. At Walnut Valley, he was the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and an Administrative Director. Dr. Plutko was also Principal and Assistant Principal at both Glendora High School and Goddard Middle School in Glendora.

He received his doctorate of education in organizational leadership from the University of La Verne, and has additional degrees in educational leadership and administration from Azusa Pacific University. He is a credentialed history teacher, and began his career teaching secondary social studies in Glendora.

Dr. Plutko continued: “I am energized as I think about visiting the engaging classrooms throughout our district. Those successful classrooms – combined with outstanding programs in the arts, athletics and activities – make for a special K-12 journey for our students.”

Current Superintendent Dr. Doug Domene informed the Board last December that he would be retiring after 31 years of serving the 25,610-student district.
