AVID student standouts recognized at Board meeting

Earlier in May, the school district was honored to have six seniors from two high schools and five eighth graders from five middle schools be recognized by the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) for their academic excellence and individual determination.

All six high schoolers were awarded various scholarships totaling $222,664 from the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF) through generous donations from Hope International University, Kingston Technology, Angels Scholars and SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. All five eighth graders were awarded a laptop along with an Angels cap, certificate and medal through the sponsorship of the Angels Baseball Foundation.

The commitment and continued support by these organizations and foundations advance the opportunities for AVID students throughout PYLUSD and across Orange County by providing the resources needed to close the achievement gap, thereby making the dream of college attainable for all students.
