Tuffree AVID students help Crystal Cove Alliance research fish, water quality

On Wednesday, May 25, Mrs. Schultz’s eighth grade AVID elective class from Tuffree Middle School, along with resident Tuffree science teacher Mrs. Brock, had the unique opportunity to be a part of the Crystal Cove Alliance’s research team as they set off on Newport Landing’s Western Pride in order to collect data on three different areas of interest: fish biodiversity, plankton and water quality. The data and analysis the students provided assisted the research team and marine scientists at the University of California, Irvine, make informed decisions about how to manage the Crystal Cove’s underwater park since it was designated as a State Marine Conservation Area (SMCA) in January 2012.
