On Thursday, May 19, Melrose Elementary School honored its valued volunteers with a special spread of tea (lemonade too), and a variety of sweets and scones. Staff even babysat kids so guests could enjoy the event. Often referred to as “high tea,” this English tradition may have actually started in France in the 17th century where it was popular with the aristocracy. It’s a lovely tradition, and an enjoyable way to show appreciation. The Volunteer Tea was well received, and will be a longstanding tradition at Melrose. What a delightful and truly civilized way to honor these volunteers, and to show them how much the school appreciates all they do.
