Trustee Carol Downey honored for 50 years of service to PYLUSD

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District would like to honor and recognize our own Trustee Carol Downey for her 50 years of service to the district.

Carol got her start in the fall of 1965 working at McFadden Elementary School in Placentia, which closed in 1977. She also worked at Ruby Drive Elementary School and Tynes Elementary School.

Carol’s husband was a principal in the school district, and all of her children and grandchildren attended schools in PYLUSD over the years.

When she wasn’t working to improve the educational opportunities for area students, Carol served on the Placentia City Council for 13 years. In the late ’80s, she was the first female mayor elected in Placentia.

Trustee Downey has served on the PYLUSD Board of Education since 2000, and for 15 years she has been a unwavering champion of the district, and a respected and admired voice of reason.

Please join PYLUSD in congratulating Trustee Carol Downey on her 50 years of dedicated public service!
