AVID tailgate at Valencia High School

AVID students from Valadez Middle School Academy and Kraemer Middle School and their families met with high School AVID students to enjoy a pre-football game tailgate barbecue in the quad at Valencia High School on Thursday, Oct. 13. After the barbecue, all students attended the football game to cheer on the Tigers.

The purpose of the tailgate was to reinforce the connection between the three schools’ AVID programs, and motivate these students to stay focused on their goal of attending a college or university after graduating from Valencia. AVID Coordinator Brandon Frank organized the event with the help of the VHS AVID extended site team.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities, especially those traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
