Lakview students R.O.A.R. to success with STEM

Lakeview Elementary School was one of five schools in PYLUSD to have a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) lab open this year. Third through fifth grades classes have all had an opportunity to experience their first “Mission” while utilizing Space Shuttle crew roles.

Third grade Lakeview Lions have been R.O.A.R.ing through their eight missions, which include “3D Dinosaurs,” “Animals,” “Bug World,” “Climate and Weather,” “Ecology,” “Forces,” “Plants,” and “Undersea Adventure.” Third grade also has the unique opportunity of interacting with live plants and animals throughout their Missions, including watching tadpoles turn into frogs, mealworms turn into beetles, sow bugs/pill bugs and a beta with a snail buddy.

R.O.A.R. stands for Respect each other and yourself, be On time and on task at school every day, Achieve your personal best (never give up), and Responsibility is the key to success.

Not only are the students excited and engaged during these Missions, the program is uniquely student-led and driven, which gives each crew member a sense of pride and accomplishment at the end of each accomplished objective.
