Former El Dorado teacher, coach Carl Sweet honored by CIF

Carl Sweet, a former El Dorado High School teacher and coach, received this year’s CIF-SS 2016 Distinguished Service Award at a banquet at the Grand Conference Center in Long Beach on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Carl served in education for 37 years. Some of his career highlights include:

  • Began at El Dorado in 1972. Started coaching football, baseball and golf.
  • 1980 – Became head football coach at Hart High School (1983 Southern Section Champions).
  • 1984 – Returned to El Dorado as head football coach for five years.
  • 1989 – Named athletic director at El Dorado, a position he would hold for 20 years (three time league president).
  • 2003 – Named California State Athletic Directors Association (CSADA) Southern Section Athletic Director of the Year.
  • 2009 – Received Orange County Athletic Directors Association (OCADA) Distinguished Service Award.
  • 2013 – Received Southern California Interscholastic Football Coaches Association (SCIFCA) Distinguished Service Award.
  • Served on the Board of OCADA for 20 years (president for two years).
  • Served on the CIF-SS Football Advisory Committee and CIF-SS Golf Advisory Committee.
  • The Voice of the Southern Section – served as public address announcer for CIF-SS baseball and football championships for over 30 years.
