Valencia junior Tyler Sanders wins top prize at Boeing Engineers Week celebration vehicle challenge

Congratulations to Valencia High School junior Tyler Sanders for earning a gold medal at Boeing’s annual 2017 Engineers Week celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Tyler, a Val Tech student, designed, engineered, built, tested and then raced his K’NEX race car in the Boeing Engineers Week vehicle challenge. Tyler’s winning design outperformed all other student vehicles in this year’s contest.

Engineers Week is a nationally recognized celebration honoring the contributions engineers have made to society. Each year, Boeing invites approximately 80 tech-minded students from Orange County high schools to visit their Huntington Beach site during Engineers Week. The purpose of the event is to provide high school students the opportunity to learn more about the engineering field, encourage interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)-related careers and view real examples of the application of STEM at Boeing.
