Golden Elementary PAL students lead Armed Forces Day celebration

Armed forces day at Golden Elementary School.

Powerful feelings of profound gratitude spread among teachers, soldiers, sailors, airmen, students, and community members in the golden light of an early morning assembly at Golden Elementary School on Friday, May 19.

Two first grade students were among those who escorted their grandparents to their place of honor. A Golden Elementary School graduate, now a member of our military, was represented by his parents among the Armed Forces honorees. Boy Scouts from fifth and sixth grade, accompanied by younger Cub Scouts, solemnly raised the nation’s flag in tribute to members, past and present, of the United States Armed Forces.

Peer Assistance Leadership students, (P.A.L.) led the campus community in poems, songs and letters of thanks for the heroes of our Armed Forces.  Sophia Candella, a sixth grader sang a beautiful rendition of our national anthem, and Herman Hope, Mrs. Karen Hope’s son, powerfully sang  “America the Beautiful.”

Intense emotions stirred as we remembered the sacrifices that our military service men and women make for our freedom. Sharing these emotions and being part of such a wonderful day brought the Golden Elementary community of learners and families close together. It is part of what makes every student shine at Golden.

The school credits Mrs. Hope and Mrs. DeGraw for putting this very special event together.
