Golden Elementary fifth graders perform Shakespeare in the park

“But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?” Framed by tall trees and on carpets of grass and pine fluff, 156 fifth grade students from Golden Elementary School performed scenes from five different Shakespeare plays. Parents and guests wandered among twenty-one mini “stages” in Koch Park where students enthralled them with dramatic renditions of tragedy and comedy.

Students staged the marketplace (the Street Fight) scene and the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet,  the “Senate Later in the Day” scene from Julius Caesar, the “Heath the Following Night”  scene from Macbeth, the “Magic Forest That Night” scene from  A Midsummer Night’s Dream and “A Square in Padua” from The Taming of the Shrew.  Teachers Mrs. Joy Rasic and Mr. Chris Zagarella were the primary organizers of this amazing evening, and Mrs. Pizzo-Spina, Mrs. Hope and Mrs. Mulcahy helped coach students to their great performances over weeks of practice.
