Award-winning author emphasizes the importance of reading to Ruby Drive students

Author Alane Adams presents to Ruby Drive students grades 4 through 6.

Ruby Drive Elementary School students in grades four through six were recently treated to a visit by author Alane Adams.  Adams is the author of two different book series – the fantasy series, Legends of Orkeny, and the children’s picture book series, The Coal Thief.

The first book in the Legends of Orkeny series, The Red Sun, is a USA Book Award winner for Best Children’s Fiction. Adams shared with students how reading is like a super power. She demonstrated that, through reading, you develop creativity skills. She emphasized to students that the more they read, the better readers they become. Adams also discussed how reading provides an escape from our everyday lives and can take us places all around the world without ever leaving where we actually are! Students were delighted and motivated by Adams’ dynamic, entertaining talk.
