PYLUSD teachers Tiffany Badger, Suzanne Borgese, and Ann Rago honored at 2018 Orange County Teachers of the Year banquet

Teachers of the Year for PYLUSD.

On October 24, the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) hosted the 2018 Orange County Teachers of the Year banquet in the Disneyland Hotel Grand Ballroom in Anaheim.  Each year, this event serves as an evening to recognize the outstanding achievements of those teachers nominated by their school districts.

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) was well-represented at the banquet with three dedicated teachers receiving honors – Tiffany Badger of El Dorado High School (EDHS), Suzanne Borgese of Travis Ranch School, and Ann Rago of Golden Elementary School.  In addition to being selected as an OC Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Badger, who has taught English language arts at El Dorado for over seven years, was also identified as one of six finalists.

Many distinguished guests were present to help celebrate the hard work of the PYLUSD teachers including Board of Education President, Karin Freeman, Clerk, Carrie Buck, Trustee, Eric Padget, Superintendent, Dr. Greg Plutko, Assistant Superintendents, David Giordano and Kevin Lee, school site principals, fellow educators, and loved ones.

The evening began with a welcome message from Dr. Al Mijares, Orange County Superintendent of Schools, and following a musical performance, transitioned into the presentation of awards hosted by actor/director, William Allen Young and producer for PBS SoCal, Maria Hall-Brown.  The theme for the evening was Compassion, Kindness, and Character.

PYLUSD teachers Mrs. Badger, Mrs. Borgese, and Mrs. Rago, who all embody the event themes, were all individually brought on stage and congratulated by Dr. Mijares, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union President/CEO, Bill Cheney, Disneyland Resort Ambassador, Alexa Garcia, and Dr. James Hines Foundation representative, Ronald Wenkart.  In total, 62 acclaimed teachers from school districts throughout the county were recognized.

As an OC Teacher of the Year finalist, Mrs. Badger was additionally acknowledged with a custom video (featured below) produced by OCDE’s Media Services team.  It documented her work and impact as an educator at El Dorado.  She also received a golden Mickey Mouse trophy to help commemorate her achievement of being a top teacher.

The celebratory evening ended with an upbeat musical performance and one last opportunity to cheer and applaud the devoted, influential work of the 2018 OC Teachers of the Year.

Congratulations again to Mrs. Badger, Mrs. Borgese, and Mrs. Rago!  Not only do they exemplify Compassion, Kindness, and Character in their roles as educators, they also epitomize the PYLUSD Advantage by ensuring students will have the advantage of an outstanding education.
